Sunnybrook is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and a core training site for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and various Postgraduate and Fellowship Programs. Our staff are well-established leaders in medical education. We are a lead site for the residency program’s POCUS training, and our simulation program offers both teaching and continuing professional development opportunities in a high-fidelity, interprofessional, team-based environment.

Health Services Research

Point-of-Care Ultrasound
Sunnybrook is the lead site for POCUS training for the University of Toronto's FRCPC Emergency Medicine program. We have an expert group of dedicated ultrasound faculty that are leaders in point-of-care ultrasound education.

Medical Education
Sunnybrook is a core teaching site for the University of Toronto's FRCPC Emergency Medicine training program. Come work alongside award-winning staff who take pride in consistently being one of the most highly rated rotation sites for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Virtual Care
Sunnybrook's Virtual ED offers same-day virtual appointments and aims to service under-served populations, reduce wait times, and improve the patient and family experience. The virtual ED is staffed by a full complement of Nurse Practitioners and consulting ED Physicians.

Simulation
Sunnybrook has a well-established high-fidelity simulation program that allows ED staff to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as for they themselves to undergo continuing professional development through opportunities including skills sessions, interprofessional in-situ simulations, and mock disasters.

Pre-Hospital Care
Looking to kick start or continue your career in pre-hospital medicine? Sunnybrook serves as the base hospital for surrounding EMS providers. Our staff complement also includes several EMS medical directors and ORNGE Air Ambulance transport physicians.

Trauma
Sunnybrook is Canada's highest volume trauma centre and the first Canadian hospital to be accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Trauma Centre. Several of our ED staff serve as Trauma Team Leaders with the Tory Trauma Program.

Care of the Elderly & Veterans Program
At Sunnybrook, we care for complex, older patients and as always working towards improving and integrating care for this population through initiatives such as @Home and the ED1 Team. Sunnybrook is the largest veterans' care facility in Canada. We work in close partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada, offering long term and complex hospital care to over 300 veterans.
